The Muisca civilization thrived in Colombia from around 600 AD until the early 16th century and had a profound relationship with gold. Known for their skilled metalworking, the Muisca considered gold a sacred material with deep spiritual and ceremonial significance.
The famous El Dorado legend is closely linked to the Muisca, where the chief, or "zipa," would cover himself in gold dust and offer treasures to the gods during rituals on Lake Guatavita in the Boyacá region.
For the Muisca, gold (oro in Spanish) was more than just a symbol of wealth; it held deep cultural and spiritual value. Their intricate goldwork, including tunjos (gold figurines), jewelry, and ceremonial objects, highlights their advanced metallurgical skills and the integral role gold played in their rituals and beliefs.

The Boyacá region, where the Muisca lived, is renowned for its emerald mines, especially the Muzo and Coscuez mines, which produce some of the world's finest emeralds. The Muisca artisans used emeralds for practical and ceremonial purposes, with the green color symbolizing nature, fertility, and life.
Just as with gold, emeralds were revered and embedded with symbolic meaning, reflecting the Muisca's advanced understanding of the natural resources in their territory. Ever since, the ancestral pieces crafted in gold and emeralds have maintained immense cultural significance for Colombia and its people.
The later Spanish colonization around the 16th century further elevated their status when Colombian emeralds adorned the most prestigious crowns in Europe, revered as true works of art.
Oro Muisca is a sophisticated remembrance of Colombian ancestral practices merged with modern and delicate Scandinavian design.
